What are Yoga postures a female adult of 23 yrs, 153 cm height and 51 Kg weight can do to become a Size Zero?

July 26, 2010

My objective is to achieve a Size Zero. Can anyone well-versed in Yoga tell me a number of postures which i can do for my overall body, as well as, specifically for my chest, belly, hips and thighs to lose fat and eventually achieve a Size Zero?

I am no expert in yoga and I do not mean to criticise but what is wrong with a size two? Size Two is more realistic. Would you rather have hips or a boyish figure? Think about it.

The Purpose of Yoga: Success and the Law of Karma

July 26, 2010

Some Gurus, and Master Yoga, teachers do not embrace the concept of Yogic principles being used for success, self-improvement, and for acquiring abundance. After all, many people have misused power, and abundance, ever since primal man could stand up on two feet.

Lord Acton’s words ring true very often, when he said, “Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Many times, throughout history, famous people have fallen prey to power, which they thought they could handle, but learned that temptation was more powerful than their code of ethics.

Yet, we cannot help the poor much, if we are also poor. You can perform selfless service (Karma Yoga), no matter how much money you have; but you cannot contribute food to the poor, if you are waiting in line at a soup kitchen.

Therefore, if you have a plan for success, you should also have a plan to help those in need. The ancient Yogis completely understood the difference between wanting and envisioning. They also understood the pitfalls of each.

Children “want,” and so do “big children,” in adult bodies. They want without vision and take no action. Adults who take no action have mottos such as: “Why me?” “Why is life so unfair?” and “If life was fair, I would be rich.”

Whatever fortune falls into the lap of a person who wants, it is taken for granted and quickly squandered. The saying, “Easy come, easy go,” can become a lifestyle.

Envisioning is completely different from wanting. Envisioning allows a person to take a concerted effort toward a goal and achieve it. When a Yoga practitioner envisions something, it will often “come to pass,” because he or she took action, in the form of small steps, to make a thought become reality.

It is interesting, when the world, outside India, is “hooked” on Hatha Yoga (Union by Physical Mastery). Yet, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and Raja Yoga, are considered more advanced forms because they enhance mental and spiritual health. You see, the real power is in the mental and spiritual forms of Yoga.

Luckily, most people age, and mellow a bit, before discovering the true powers of envisioning and action. However, integrity ethics, and character, are often in short supply, when someone becomes “instantly rich.”

How often do we read about sports, and movie celebrities, who cannot handle their instant fame or material wealth? This is why the Law of Karma, and practicing Karma Yoga, are so important. Design a plan to give, help, and forgive, whenever you envision success.

The Yoga Ashram – The Ongoing Relationship For A Yoga Teacher

July 22, 2010

As yoga teachers we all know what a yoga ashram is.  Many of us have probably even been or stayed on a yoga ashram.  In fact a lot of us may have completed our yoga teacher training course on an ashram.

However are we as yoga teachers still drawing from the well spring of the ashram?

Even after obtaining teacher training certification and up and running as a yoga teacher and running a yoga business the yoga ashram still has much to offer.

For yoga teachers burnt out from teaching the ashram is a place of retreat and a step back to self.  It is a common problem that yoga teachers have full schedules and have difficulty with finding enough time for themselves.  Yoga teachers are often burnt out running from session to session.

The ashram is a great place to take some time out and take stock and regain ones energies and focus on oneself and practice.

Not only that, the ashram is a space to reinforce all what one has learnt prior.  Returning to the ashram is an opportunity to gain higher levels of understanding having integrated prior teachings.

Naturally this means taking ones own practice to another level.  A chance to deepen your yoga practice.  The chance to reconnect with self and ones practice at a deeper level.

Of course the yoga ashram also offers further teachings and trainings.  If there is something you would love to integrate into your teaching or practice return to learn this.

As a yoga teacher, keeping ones practice fresh and vital means integrating new knowledge.  Here is where the ashram comes in and helps.

Ashrams are often running different courses and teachings like advanced pranayama, yoga anatomy and physiology refreshers, yoga therapy courses, detoxification courses and asana specific workshops.  Taking further trainings such as these courses is a way to keep your knowledge fresh and vital.

Returning to the ashram is a fantastic approach to enhance understanding and further ones own practice.  However, all of this in the end also gets transmitted back to your student and in the end – everyone benefits.  Everyone benefits.  Your students receive better classes and you become a better teacher.

How is Yoga beneficial to the mind and body?

July 22, 2010

I am going to begin taking a Yoga class today. I want to know a bit about how Yoga is beneficial to the mind and body.

I know each person is different so your personal experience with Yoga would help.

For the mind it opens up your awareness of your body and self. You learn how to control yourself through the methods that you’re taught and you can incorporate its concept to life. There are all kinds of teachers and classes so I can’t say what you’ll take away from it but there is a whole spectrum of things that yoga does to help you enrich your lifestyle and help you feel good about yourself. Your body simply follows the well-being of the mind so if you really stretch your limits you will have that perfect form that you achieve for all the while maximizing your thinking power.

What is the best way to learn yoga at home?

July 17, 2010

I’ve always been interested in yoga, but to I have to go to a yoga class or can I just teach myself by researching it and doing it at home?
Also are there any tips you can give me in yoga?
Thanks!
How much do yoga classes cost to join?

I definitely recommend taking some classes. After you are familiar with the postures, you can practice at home, too, but having a live teacher is best so they can make corrections.

Look for studios in your area online. A lot of studios have beginner packages so you can try out the different types of yoga they offer and different teachers. Often, these are punch cards – 5 classes for $30 or something, and you can go any time you want so you can find the classes you like.

You can also check out your local rec. center. A lot of these also offer yoga classes, often drop-in, and also often cheaper than a yoga studio.

It’s hard to say how much it will cost. It varies pretty widely depending where you live, how many yoga studios there, and even the type of yoga. Even if it’s pricey for you, you may only need to pay for 10-20 classes before you have enough of an understanding to practice at home, at which point it will be free!

Tips for yoga – remember that every body is different, and not only are some ppl more flexible than others, but you’ll also find this within your own body. For example, your hips might be flexible, but not your shoulders. Be patient with yourself and be open to trying new things.

July 16, 2010

Kamloop Yoga

Have you had a bad experience with a yelling boss? Or not a good working environment? You are not all alone to hate these kinds of scenarios. Even if you are working from home, you can still experience some not so good things on your work. It takes significant amount of your precious time and energy doing your work since you choose to be your own boss at your home.

You need to identify some reality if you think that you are stress free working from home. There are also known risks involve like eye fatigue, headache, severe neck and back pain that should be given immediate attention and obesity. For sure, you may sometimes forget to do healthy exercises and have correct eating habits. In view of the fact that you manage your own time and work, you can eat and work anytime you like.

These negative effects to our body need to be given important and immediate attention. Most of the time, you cannot even think to do some treadmill or to take a rest. But we still have to think of some ways on how to treat these hazards to our health and it’s not time consuming. You can check out some yoga techniques that are proven to be effective.

Utilizing a wooden chair with a back support is better than squashy chair. The best yoga sitting position is to keep your feet parallel and firmly flat on the floor. Your hips should not be lower than your knees. This will give your abdomen a balance and keep you in an upright position. Sway your body backward and frontward which will release some stress on your joints. Move your hand at wrist joints that will clear the tiredness from using the keyboards.

When you work from your own home, you are your own boss. Effective boss’s also takes care of their worker’s health. So take care of your precious self by doing some simple yoga exercises while working.
