Power yoga?

What does this do? Like, does it tone our body, make you more muscular, or help you lose weight?

Hi! I’ve been doing yoga for 4 years now, but I mainly stick to hatha and sivananda which require less strength and endurance, but I occasionally do power, too. I can just tell you it’s a wonderful experience, you really feel that you’re working out, I totally recommend it. It burns fat and works and tones every muscle in your body. All types of yoga tone your body, but without looking too muscular like a body builder which is why I love it. It’s also very relaxing and releases tension, but in the power there is much less meditation than other kinds.
You should really give it a go – and hey, if you don’t like it, just don’t continue =] Definitely go for it, it’s GREAT exercise and you won’t regret it. Power Yoga: Great For Core Fitness

Do you have any previous experience in martial arts? Perhaps you once tried a little karate in high school, or checked out a tae kwon do class at your local YMCA. Anyway, you may have dabbled in martial arts a little. That's a good thing, since most people have never had any experience in a self-defense discipline and have little understanding of what the training is like. But even if you have minor experience, you may not be prepared for the training required for a similar type of fitness discipline. That is something you must consider if you are thinking of trying out power yoga. It is a discipline that requires commitment if you are going to achieve results, and the training involved can actually be quite intense.

Yoga is not only about calmness and relaxation. When I speak of power yoga, I'm talking about using yoga as a means of achieving fitness, especially core fitness–that is, exercising the central muscles of your body, as opposed to focusing on your arm and leg muscles. Power yoga has the benefit of giving you a total body workout, so that the development in all areas of your body takes place more or less simultaneously. This is an excellent way of getting fit. And the stretching, balance, and concentration involved in yoga improve your body's regulation of your blood circulation, pumping more oxygen to your muscles and increasing your overall energy.

Power yoga is a great discipline to help you stay in good shape as you grow older. It is a physical art that teaches the body how to age gracefully, not quickly. Power yoga also requires a lot of devotion, just like a martial art or indeed any fitness program in general. You need to not only learn and master the techniques of power yoga but put them into continuous practice. It is like being a boxer or a martial artist, if you do not train your skills regularly, you will become rusty and your fitness development will suffer. If you are serious about doing power yoga, you must be devoted to a regimen that you must strive to follow every day in spite of the many distractions that life brings. That, after all, is one of the keys to this discipline. In the end, it is important that you see it not as a tool for exercise, but as a way of life.

What Is Power Yoga – And How Does It Differ From Ashtanga?

Power yoga is a very exercise-centered form of yoga, in that it aims to develop endurance, stamina, and strength. It is a synthesis of many different yoga traditions, created by Baron Baptiste. Baptiste studied with yoga teachers including Iyengar (Iyengar yoga), Pattabhi Jois (Astanga yoga), and Bikram Choundhury (Bikram yoga).

Despite its physicality, Baptiste’s Power yoga is based on the philosophy that self discovery, freedom, and truth are not to be found in either the dogma or traditional teachings of yoga, nor the technical parts of a physical asana practice. Instead, it is through honing one’s individuality and deep intuition. The principle is that we all have the tools and wisdom we need to lead a truthful and fulfilling life.

This departure from tradition found some opposition, however this style of yoga is very popular. For many, it’s a welcome break from other traditions that imply you must place your power outside of yourself to find a deeper sense of one’s own relationship to Source.

Ashtanga yoga, which follows the teachings of Pattabhi Jois, and is more rigid and schematic, is sometimes called ‘Power Yoga’, so it can seem confusing. The two have in common the use of vinyasa poses. Vinyasa poses simply link together the principle asanas in the sequence, or class. The Salute to the sun is used by both Baptiste and Ashtanga yoga to create this sense of flow. It’s a lovely thing to incorporate into any practice, and certainly very effective at improving one’s physical fitness.

Vinyasa style yoga also helps create more internal heat, and the movement inherent within it allows for cardiovascular exercise to be incorporated into yoga.

By creating a sequence that helps heat build up within the body, both Baptiste’s Power Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga encourage flexibility within a session, whilst minimizing muscle strain and injuries. It is also considered a way of aiding in the detoxification of metabolic wastes and ‘impurities’. Power yoga is also practiced in a room heated to 30 degrees Celsius, to facilitate this heat generation.

One thing that really differentiates Baptiste’s Power Yoga from Ashtanga yoga, is the way beginners are accommodated within a class. There are not separate classes for beginners. They are instead presented with an opportunity to begin developing their own intuition, and self-power, straight away, by pacing themselves through a class. It’s a case of not trying to keep up with the “yoga Jones’”!

The defining difference, is however, the focus on developing a sense of one’s personal power, and all that entails – overcoming self limitation, and coming to terms with one’s own hidden potential. In a very modern way, it seems to capture the essence of what yoga is.

If you are finally to the point where you are tired of always being out of shape then it is about time you find something that will not only get you in shape but will be relaxing and entertaining for you all at the same time. A lot of people assume that this is not something that can be found but in fact, such things as core power yoga are starting to catch on in popularity. As time is showing, people are starting to see that there are a lot of different health benefits to be gained by taking part in core power yoga.

Besides dropping a few extra pounds a lot of people report that they become mentally relaxed and placed at ease when they are through with their daily core power yoga routine. Such a exercise is worth every penny and moment spent on it since it can do so much for you. The core power yoga routine is something that you will want to take slow and talk to your doctor about if you have any medical issues that may make this a dangerous situation for you. Odds are you will be fine but it is better to be safe then sorry.

Classes And Videos

When it comes to partaking in core power yoga you are probably going to want a little bit of guidance so that you can make sure that you are doing in right and so that you get a full day’s workout in without missing anything. Some people prefer taking a class somewhere that offers core power yoga to its students and they have no problem paying for the class. If you have such a class near you and you do not mind forking out the money then getting your core power yoga in that way is an okay thing to do.

Other people would rather save the money or avoid doing their core power yoga in front of other people and that is fine as well. There are a lot of power yoga videos out there that a person can pick up at use in the comfort of their own home at their own pace. This means that anybody anywhere can get the many benefits of the core power yoga and be so much better for it. In the end, it really does not matter where you do it as long as you are getting your core power yoga in on a daily basis.
